Film Review of The Departed (2006)

This film by magnificent director Martin Scorsese features two men (Matt Damon and Leonardo DiCaprio), one is an undercover policeman working as a henchman for crime boss Frank Costello (Jack Nicholson), and the other is an undercover henchman for Costello disguised as a policeman. The film’s cast list is packed with big names including Mark Wahlberg and Alec Baldwin.

This is Scorsese’s remake of the film Internal Affairs, and won Scorsese his first Oscar along with three other Academy Awards and a Golden Globe Award.

You will be captivated throughout the film as it explores organised crime in Boston. As shown by the numerous awards it has won, this film is a definite must-see.

Film Review of Shutter Island (2010)

Another one of Martin Scorsese’s masterpieces starring Leonardo DiCaprio as Teddy Daniels, a U.S. Marshal who has been sent to Shutter Island, a home for the criminally insane. He is there with his partner Chuck Aule (Mark Ruffalo) to investigate the disappearance of the patients.

The film is based on Dennis Lehane’s novel of the same name and Scorsese does an amazing job of bringing the story to life through his clever direction of each event, which twists and turns the film’s plot.

This is definitely a movie to be watched twice to understand the incredible story that will blow your mind.

Overall I would rate this film 4.5 out of 5

Film Review of Captain Phillips (2013)

Captain Phillips is a fantastic film based on a true story. In 2009 Somali pirates hijacked the Maersk Alabama and Captain Phillips played by Tom Hanks a two time Oscar winner was the man that stood in their way.

This film really focuses on the battle between Captain Phillips and Barkhad Abdi who plays the Somali Pirate Captain. It was a breakthrough performance by Abdi and left you with a sense of realisation that this does happen in real life and its something that I personally was left dwelling on after the film.

In my opinion it was some of Tom Hanks best work I’ve seen for a while and the film really does keep the view intrigued throughout the film.

Overall I would rate this film 4 out of 5.
